Creative Process

The creative process is the most important part of any good project. It allows a designer to be specific, creative, and continue to produce meaningful work.

Project Goal

The goal for this project was to redesign a book cover. I chose to redesign the cover for a book called A Voice in the Wind. It is the first book in The Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers. The original book covers are shown below.

Original Book Covers

Moodboards

The first step in my process was to create moodboards for the book cover. I designed three different boards. The first is a simple but colorful book cover. It was meant to be a modern take on book cover design. The second board is an elaborate designed book cover, almost like traditional gold leaf book cover design. The third is a black and white based book cover with simple designs. I ultimately chose this third option because I felt it fit the solemness of the book.

Sketches & Thumbnails

The second part of the process was sketching design ideas. Scroll through the gallery to see my sketches. After sketching I chose one of the ideas for my final and created it using Illustrator and Photoshop.
